Liu Fengyun, female and was born in Ha’erbin. She studied at the Department of History of Ha’erbin Normal University as the first students after China restored its national college entrance examination at the very beginning of 1978. She specialized in the ancient history of China at the Institute of Qing History of Renmin University of China in September 1983 and majored in the history of Qing Dynasty. She obtained her MA degree in history in July 1986 and her PhD degree in February 1991 at the Renmin University of China. She is now the professor at the Institute of Qing History and tutors PhD program. She was once invited by Japan Tokai University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University as visiting researcher and to conduct cooperative research. She used to be a guest researcher of Beijing Japanology Research Center.
Her research focuses on the politics and cities in Qing Dynasty, comparison of Chinese and Japanese cities in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Her main academic publications include: Research of Three Feuds in Qing Dynasty, Biography of Wu Sangui, and Exploration of the Urban Culture in Ming and Qing Dynasties. She also published dozens of academic theses and is now undertaking a social sciences research project of Beijing city during the 10th five-year-plan, Research on the Transformation of Capital Cities of China and Japan before Modern Times (is concluding) and part of the national project of Qing History, Biography: Emperor Kangxi (is just starting).
