An international conference on “The Abdication of the Qing Emperor and the Founding of Republic of China” was held in Beijing from 16 to 18 June 2012. The IQH hosted the conference. More than 90 scholars from Chinese Academy of Social Science, Beijing University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Normal University, National Chengchi University (Taiwan), Washington University, University of Akron, University of Texas at Austin, Arizona State University, University of Cincinnati, etc. attended and more than 60 papers were presented.

    Professor Huang Xingtao, the Director of IQH, delivered an opening address. He briefly explained the origin and aims of the conference. As he emphasized, both the abdication of the Qing emperor and the founding of the Republic were consequences of the 1911 Xinhe Revolution, but they both showed their own political and social influences and historical significance. Professor Huang believed that it was worth studying the abdication of the Qing emperor and the founding of the Republic, which in turn would deepen our understanding of the Xinhe Revolution.

    Li Wenhai (Professor and ex-President of Renmin University of China), Wang Rongzu (Professor of National Central University at Taiwan), Luo zhitian (Professor of Beijing University), Sang Bing (Professor of Zhongshan University), Yang Nianqun (Professor of IQH), Xia Mingfang (Professor of IQH) and other scholars delivered keynote speeches. They analyzed the historical background, processes, and influences of the abdication of the Qing emperor and the founding the Republic from different perspectives.
